Companies House identity verification
Link your personal code to your PSC role
A simple six-step walkthrough for connecting your verified identity to a company where you are registered as a Person with Significant Control.
Before you begin
Have these three things ready
You must already have verified your identity with Companies House and received your personal code.
Your sign-in details
Your Companies House account email and password, or the option to create sign-in details.
Your company number
The eight-character Companies House number for the company where you are a PSC.
Your personal code
The 11-character code issued to you after successful identity verification.
Start the service and sign in to check your dates. If you cannot meet the deadline, the live service explains how to request an extension before it passes.
Not sure whether you are listed as a PSC?
Check the company’s “People” tab
On the public Companies House record, select People, then Persons with significant control. A PSC usually owns or controls more than 25% of the company or voting rights, or otherwise has significant control.
Step-by-step
Follow the service screens
Use the controls below to move through the process. Signed-in screens use safe example details; the live wording may vary slightly.
Step 1 of 6
Open the PSC service
Go to the official Companies House service and select the green Start button.
Open the service, review what you need, then select Start.
Tip: Use only the GOV.UK service. UBTA will never ask you to enter your code into this guide.
Step 2 of 6
Sign in
Enter the email address for your Companies House account and continue through sign-in.
Sign in with your existing details. If you do not have an account, select Create sign in details.
Privacy: Keep your password and any one-time security code to yourself.
Step 3 of 6
Enter the company number
Type the Companies House number for the company where you are registered as a PSC.
Check the company name shown after entry, then select Continue.
More than one company? You will repeat this process separately for every company, using the same personal code.
Step 4 of 6
Select your name
Companies House will show the PSCs registered for that company. Find and select your name.
Select your own name, check that it is the right record, then continue.
Cannot see your name? Re-check the company number and the public PSC list before going further.
Step 5 of 6
Enter your personal code
Enter the 11-character Companies House personal code you received after verifying your identity.
Enter the code exactly as issued and confirm the identity verification statement if asked.
Keep it secure: The code belongs to you personally, not to the company. Share it only with people you trust.
Step 6 of 6
Check and submit
Review the company, your name and the verification statement before sending the information to Companies House.
When everything is correct, select the final submit button and keep the confirmation page for your records.
What happens next: Your verified identity should then be connected to your PSC role for that company.
Important
Three points to remember
One verification, several links
You only verify your identity once, but you must link the code to every company where you are registered as a PSC.
Director and PSC are separate
If you are both a director and a PSC, the code must be provided separately for both roles. Completing one does not complete the other.
Use your PSC window
Each PSC has a 14-day period to provide the code and statement. Sign in to the service to check the dates that apply to you.
